On July 24, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Director of the Bangkok Employment Office Area 10, Ms. Thipawan Thongsri, to visit the area to receive food and consumables from Khun Ratcharin Somboonbodee, children, and the family of Laila, who donated dry foods, and from Khun Nantharat Thamcharoen and friends from a Facebook group who donated 330 sets of sandwiches, crackers, drinking water, sticky rice and fried pork, rice boxes, and egg snacks. The donations were made for the Ministry of Labour to deliver to the workers, to support those affected by the workers’ camp closure measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The food and goods were delivered to the construction worker’s accommodation at Siam Multi Call Co., Ltd., Soi Vibhavadi 16, Yaek 17, Din Daeng, Bangkok, which had 94 employees, and the Infinite Construction and Engineering Co., Ltd., worker camp at Soi Rim Klong Samsen next to Phayathai Pirom Park, with 236 employees. In total, the two camps had 330 workers. The donations aim to help workers have a good quality of life and help alleviate their burden throughout the period of cooperation in compliance with government measures.
The donation of food and necessary items from the private sector and people to give to employees in the workers’ camps are supplementary measures. The Ministry of Labour asks employers to provide three meals for their workers, whereas the Ministry of Labour will support consumer goods for camp workers affected by the CCSA’s measures to close the construction worker’s camp. The measure aims to restrict the travels and movement of workers in the dark red provinces for one month to control the spread of COVID-19 in worker camp clusters. In addition, the Ministry of Labour compensates for unemployment benefits, at 50 percent of wages.
Ms. Thipawan said that today, the Ministry of Labour by the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin is concerned about the workers in the two construction camps. Therefore, she was assigned to deliver food and consumables from the private sector and people who have the kindness to donate to the workers affected by the measures to close worker camps, to alleviate the suffering and food expenses for workers.
