On January 28, 2020, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul spoke about the progress of helping to monitor the benefits for Thai fishermen returning from Somalia, from the case of 32 Thai fishermen who were adrift while fishing in Somalia and received assistance to return to Thailand in August 2019. The transfer was a cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labour. On December 26, 2019, at 13.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the Skill Development Committee Meeting No. 11/2019, which took place at the Pakorn Angsusingha Meeting Room, 10th floor, Department of Skill Development. The meeting requested approval to appoint a sub-committee to send participants to the 13th ASEAN Skill Competition. The meeting also drafted the announcement of the Skill Development Promotion Committee on test methods for the National Skills Assessments, and the issuance of certificates certifying completion of the National Skill Standards Test in industrial occupation, steel arc welding by hand at the level 2 and 3 proficiency. The project aims to raise awareness among companies with less than 10 employees, to become aware of drug problems, and to cooperate in the prevention and solution, building immunity among workers in companies with less than 10 employees. The Labour Minister showed concern for three Thai workers who died and three who were injured while working at the New Taipei Por in Taiwan. He has instructed labour diplomats to investigate and coordinate with support to the families and workers to ensure they receive compensation following the legal processes. On December 3, 2019, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul spoke about the case of three Thai workers who died and three who were injured in an accident at work. The workers fell into the sea while moving large cement blocks to the offshore gas collection and storage station at New Taipei Port in Taiwan. Advisor to the Labour Minister joined a meeting to deliver government policy guidelines to heads of government agencies in Chiang Rai. The guidelines aimed to promote independent product groups to add value, ready to cooperate with the private sector to enhance skills further to ensure workers have careers, income, and good quality of life. On December 2, 2019, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Phattana Phanfak participated in parallel activities of the third EU-ASEAN Forum on Human Rights, which took place on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in Brussels, Belgium. She represented the Chair of the ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW). Key activities included: 1. Consultations between the EU-ASEAN and the people sector, with the essence of exchanging operational procedures to promote human rights and submitting recommendations from the people sector to the EU-ASEAN to develop operations on issues related to the elimination of violence and discrimination against LGBTI and foreign workers. IT also included promoting the role of the education sector in supporting schools that are safe and free from violence, promoting transparency in human rights operations and increasing the people sector’s participation. 2.
