Labour Minister’s Advisor Delivers Policies to Heads of Government Agencies under MOL in Pattani

          On November 27, 2019, at 15.30 hours, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet chaired the meeting for the heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Pattani. The meeting took place at the Pattani Provincial Labour Office’s meeting room, 3rd floor, Pattani City Hall, Pattani. Labour Minister’s Advisor Launches Idea of “Pattani Model” In Collaboration with Fishing Businesses to Resolve Labour Shortages Sustainably

            Advisor to the Labour Minister and committee visited Pattani and met with fishing boat operators and related industries in Pattani, creating new dimensions of ideas called the “Pattani Model.” The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Labour, relevant agencies and operators in the local area. Permanent Secretary of Labour Concludes Training for 24th Batch of New Officials under MOL

    On November 17, 2019, at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol presided over the closing ceremony of the training course on the Development of Civil Service Personnel of the Ministry of Labour, Batch 24. The ceremony awarded the personnel who passed the training with an insignia for new officials, which took place at the Wisutkasat Room, 6th floor, Trang Hotel, Bangkok. The Permanent Secretary of Labour said that the new officials will be a valuable human resource to the Ministry of Labor, and therefore asked everyone to be aware of the importance of their roles, duties and responsibilities as a good government official. Permanent Secretary Reports Progress on Deceased Thai Worker in Japan as the Employer Organizes the Cremation and Remains Sent to Thailand

  The Permanent Secretary of Labour reported the progress in helping the Thai worker who died in Japan, as doctors identified symptoms of nephritis. The employer arranged the cremation ceremony and took care of expenses for the funeral and medical fees. The employer has also returned accrued wages and will deliver the remains to relatives in Thailand.         On November 14, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol reported the progress of assistance for Mr. Somsak Kromthaisong, a Thai worker who died in Japan on November 2, 2019. Doctors said that he had symptoms of nephritis. The Labour Office in Japan gave an update on November 12, explaining that the employer arranged the cremation ceremony of Mr. Somsak, where relatives and colleagues also joined the service. Minister Counselor (on labour) Mr. Saichon Aknitwong also participated in the ceremony. MOL Trains Batch 24 of New Government Officials

         On November 8, 2019, at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Niyom Songkaew presided over the opening ceremony of the training course on the Development of Civil Service Personnel of the Ministry of Labour, Batch 24, Jompol P. Pibulsongkram, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The training aims to instill a philosophy of being a competent government official and build capacity and skills required for civil service. It also seeks to promote morals, ethics, teamwork, and good rapport, and develop a working network. The course focuses on learning from past experiences of expert speakers, study trips, and hands-on practice in and out of the classroom. The training schedule is between November 8-17, 2019, for a total of 10 days. The trainees are from all departments under the Ministry of Labour, both in the central and regional areas, totaling 127 people. Labour Minister Shows Concern for Deceased Thai Worker in Japan and Orders Labour Ambassador to Coordinate Cremation and Follow Up Legal Benefits

         The Labour Minister showed concern for the Thai worker who passed away in Japan, as doctors identified symptoms of nephritis. He ordered the diplomatic personnel to investigate the case and coordinate with the employer for the cremation and transportation of ashes back to the family in Thailand. Furthermore, the ministry will follow up on the legal benefits along with units under the Ministry of Labour in Buriram Province, to visit and support the family closely.           On November 6, 2019, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul spoke about the case of a Thai worker’s death in Japan due to illness and heart failure. The Ministry of Labor ordered the ambassador’s advisor (labour department) from the Labour Office in Japan to investigate the case and coordinate with the employer to arrange the cremation and send the ashes back to Thailand. Labour Minister Discusses Thailands Removal from the US GSP and Confirms Protection of All Workers to International Standards

          The Labour Minister spoke about the case of the US, which will remove Thailand from the GSP program. He confirmed that the Ministry of Labour and related units had worked together on labour protection issues to adhere to international standards all along. Efforts have included the elimination of the worst forms of child labour, which has seen success on many levels for two consecutive years now. It has resolved human trafficking issues by upgrading its status to Tier 2, improved labour protections in the fishing industry, and has been released from the yellow status for IUU fishing.
