MOL Cooperates on Development and Enhancement of Professional Training to Reduce Societal Inequality and Promote a Quality Workforce

        On November 29, 2019, at 10.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul co-chaired the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation for development and enhancement of professional training for target groups. The MOC was signed between the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development, the Department of Skill Development, the Department of Employment, the Office of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission and the Electronic Transactions Development Agency. The occasion took place at the Pakorn Angsusingha Meeting Room, 2nd floor, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. The Ministry of Labour’s representatives included the Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun and the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul, who signed the Memorandum of Cooperation as well. The Labour Minister said that in the age of globalization, digital innovation, fast-paced changes, and the alpha era, these have affected the old world and type of work we are familiar with. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet and committee delivered policies and working guidelines of labour graduates in Pattani. Director from the Office of Inspection and Evaluation Ms. Pattraporn Samatrat, Pattani Labour Officer Mrs. Suchinda Boon-ae and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Pattani province, together with 195 labour graduates, welcomed the visiting committee Srinakara Room, 3rd floor, Southern View Hotel, Mueang, Pattani. MOL Emphasizes Prevention of Human Trafficking and Protection of Workers from all Nationalities under Legal Rights

Permanent Secretary of Labour Visits Ministry of Labour’s Booth at Red Cross Fair 2019 in Lumphini Park

          On November 15, 2019, at 12.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol visited the Ministry of Labour’s Red Cross Fair booth in Lumpini Park, Rama 4 Road, Bangkok. The ministry’s executives also joined the occasion. Every day of the event will be supported by agencies under the Ministry of Labour, which will circulate as co-host of Ministry of Labour’s booth at the Red Cross Fair. This year celebrates the 126th year of the Thai Red Cross under the concept of “Under the Auspices of His Majesty the King, An Elegant Flow of Donation for Charity Can Be Achieved”. Labour Minister’s Advisor Commences Project to Prepare Workforce and Create a Career Guidance Network in Lampang

          On November 15, 2019, at 09.00 hours, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet chaired the opening of the workforce preparation program and activities to create a career guidance network (project to enhance vocational skills for students in underprivileged families who did not continue to study after mandatory education in Lampang). The advisor was joined together with Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, the Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General, Mrs. Jarunee Kemarangsee from the Lampang Labour Office and heads of all departments under the Ministry of Labour. There were over 65 trainees from all schools in Lampang participating in the project at Wiang Phana Room, Lampang Hotel, Wiang Thong Hotel, Lampang.           The vocational skills enhancement project for students in underprivileged families who did not continue to study after mandatory education, is an integration with many relevant government agencies that have come together to drive the benefit of the youth. Permanent Secretary Reports Progress on Deceased Thai Worker in Japan as the Employer Organizes the Cremation and Remains Sent to Thailand

  The Permanent Secretary of Labour reported the progress in helping the Thai worker who died in Japan, as doctors identified symptoms of nephritis. The employer arranged the cremation ceremony and took care of expenses for the funeral and medical fees. The employer has also returned accrued wages and will deliver the remains to relatives in Thailand.         On November 14, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol reported the progress of assistance for Mr. Somsak Kromthaisong, a Thai worker who died in Japan on November 2, 2019. Doctors said that he had symptoms of nephritis. The Labour Office in Japan gave an update on November 12, explaining that the employer arranged the cremation ceremony of Mr. Somsak, where relatives and colleagues also joined the service. Minister Counselor (on labour) Mr. Saichon Aknitwong also participated in the ceremony. Permanent Secretary of Labour Discusses Official Matters with Thai Permanent Representative to UN in Geneva, Switzerland

          On November 4, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol performed official duties in Genva, Switzerland. He discussed with H.E. Mr. Sek Wannamethee, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nation, the standing of the Thai government and ASEAN parties at the 337th session of the Governing Body at the ambassador’s residence. Official from the European Commission on Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion Mrs. Evelyn Pritchot also met with the Permanent Secretary for an introduction and to join in discussing the planning of the Thailand- EU Labuor Dialogue at the International Labour Organization Headquarters. Permanent Secretary of Labour Joins 337th Session of the Governing Body in Geneva

            On November 4, 2019, the Permanent Secretary of Labour and delegation attended the 337th session of the Governing Body at the International Labour Organization headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. The Permanent Secretary of the Labour issued a statement on behalf of ASEAN parties entitled “The agenda of the Annual International Labour Organization’s Conference (ILC) to be held in the future” which the ASEAN Member States attach great importance and agree to support. “Life Long Learning” will be a general discussion agenda at the 109th ILC meeting in 2020, as global changes in the working world has resulted in challenges in learning and skill development, which is essential to the future for the reform of the workforce.               On this occasion, the Permanent Secretary of Labour had a discussion with the ILO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Ms. Tomoko Nishimoto, about the organization of the Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM), which Singapore will host around April 2021. MOL Joins the Working Group Meeting to Progress the Global Compact on Refugees

On October 30, 2019, at 10.00 hours, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Phattana Phanfak chaired the working group meeting on for the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and Global Compact on Migration (GCM) for the second time. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whereby the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke) chaired the meeting.  This meeting discussed and requested comments from the working group as follows:             1. Progress of Thailand’s actions in accordance with the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration totaling 23 items.             2. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will propose to the Cabinet, to request funding for safe, orderly and regular migration, in the amount of USD 25,000, for a one-time payment (not bound with the next fiscal year). The fund is a new and Thailand will be the third country to support the establishment of the fund.             3. Assistant to the Labour Minister Meets to Resolve Issues Presented by the Assembly of the Poor

          Today (October 29, 2019) at 10.00 hours, Assistant to the Labour Minister, Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng chaired the meeting to discuss solutions to the issues presented by the Assembly of the Poor (under the responsibility of the Ministry of Labour), which has issues on demands from the Assembly of the Poor. The 2 proposals were 1) Labour issues 2) The Ministry of Labour’s policy proposals. Therefore a meeting was held to discuss with the relevant agencies which invited 3 provinces, including Chon Buri, Rayong, and Chanthaburi, to participate in the meeting via video conference to jointly solve the problems of the Assembly of the Poor related to the Ministry of Labour. Permanent Secretary of Labour Welcomes HRH Princess Soamsawali and HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha at the PrEP Symposium in Thailand

          Today (October 29, 2019) at 14.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol welcomed HRH Princess Soamsawali and HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha, at a symposium following up on PrEP pre-exposure HIV prevention medicine services in Thailand. MOL Urges Not to Worry About Unemployment with Provision of Support Services Through Multiple Channels

         The Ministry of Labour gave clarity on the unemployment situation that is not a concern as the rate has decreased both from last month and the same period the previous year. The ministry also emphasized that the government sector provides job application services through many channels.          The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Apinya Sujarittanan, as the ministry’s spokesperson, said that from the National Statistical Offices data, there are 38.42 million people in the workforce, of which 37.78 million people are employed. This statistic includes workers in agriculture, manufacturing, services, and trade sectors. The unemployed population is 377,000 people or 1.0 percent of the total workforce. Compared to the same period last year, the unemployment rate was 1.1 percent, reflecting an unemployment rate that is not problematic or worrisome. In this regard, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul has not ignored the unemployment situation. The Labour Minister views the situation as not to be worried about and has instructed the Ministry of Labour to lay out ways to help the unemployed.
