The Labor Minister revealed the private sector’s response to government policy on promoting the employment of the elderly, aiming to encourage the employment of 100,000 elderly workers in 2019, divided into 20,000 elderly workers in the system and 80,000 informal elderly workers. On February 25, 2019, at 13.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark chaired the Skill Development Promotion Committee Meeting No. 2/2019 at the Pakorn Angsusingh Conference Room, 10th Floor, Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labour. The meeting considered the qualifications of the national labour skill assessment participants and issuance of a certificate to certify passing the National Skill Standards Test for professionals under section 26 of the Skill Development Promotion Act B.E. 2545 (2002), for February 2019. The meeting also considered revision of the order on the Subcommittee Determining National Skill Standards for the service sector and Thai culinary arts, and studied the risk management manual and plan for the Skill Development Fund for the 2019 fiscal year. On February 24, 2019, at 08.00 hours, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo; Nakhon Phanom Provincial Governor, Mr. Siam Sirimongkol; and Deputy Governor, Mrs. Wilaiwan Kraisoda led the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Police and agencies, Nakhon Phanom Commander and Mayor Pol. Maj. Thanachat Rodlongtan, Deputy Mayor Mr. Wattanasak Chiaviriyaboona and Mr. Chokdee Mangkalasee, government heads, private organizations and the people, participated in waste disposal and landscape refining in the Nakhon Phanom Big Cleaning Day event. The activities aimed to boost cleanliness, beauty and order within Nakhon Phanom and various surrounding areas. Waste issues are another problem that the government gives importance to, as every community faces. The Ministry of Labour joined the IOM meeting to discuss the exchange of labour market information through the central information system for migrant workers in the ASEAN region. On February 21, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Somsak Apiwantanakul to chair the opening of a meeting to discuss the promotion of management on labour market information exchange through the central information system for migrant workers in ASEAN. The meeting took place at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. On this occasion, Mr. Somsak thanked IOM for organizing this project with summarized the workshop on labour market data for migration in 2018. The IOM will use this data to develop information in the web portal for publishing in ASEAN member countries. The Labour Minister welcomed Laotian Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Dr. Kampaeng Saisompang and Permanent Secretary Mr. Lipao Yang on attending the senior labour official meeting and Thai-Laos Labour Ministers Meeting at the Emerald Hotel, Bangkok.
