กระทรวงแรงงาน “ร่วมสร้างวัฒนธรรมไทยเชิงป้องกัน สู่ความปลอดภัย อาชีวอนามัย และความผาสุกที่ยั่งยืน”/MOL Launches “Forward Culture of Prevention for Safety Thailand” Event

 

          On July 13, 2023, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, presided over the opening ceremony of the 35th National Occupational Health and Safety Fair, and presented awards to 84 model establishments that passed the criteria for safety promotion activities of the TOSH. Government executives, business establishments executives, representatives from relevant agencies, and workplace safety officers participated in the event at Building 11-12, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani.
          Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong said that, at present, there are still ongoing occupational hazards and diseases. The Ministry of Labour has pushed the national agenda on “Safe Workers with Good Health” to Phase 2 (2017 – 2026) and the Safety Thailand policy to sustainably reduce the rate of occupational hazards. When considering incidents, it was found that over 80 percent of occupational hazards and diseases were caused by workers themselves. The Ministry of Labour therefore assigned TOSH, whose primary mission is to promote and develop academic work, to conduct a study on safety management tools suitable for all types of workplaces. The concept of today’s event was to “Forward Culture of Prevention for Safety Thailand.” The result is a set of MDC safety values that are suitable for all types of workplaces, consisting of “Mindfulness,” which is concentrating on work, knowing, and thinking, and working carefully and correctly with safety awareness and the ability to consider dangers and reduce risk points in the workplace. Next is “Discipline,” which is practicing strictly with the provisions, laws, or guidelines to operate correctly and safely. Finally is “Caring,” which is having kindness, care, and generosity to help colleagues create a good environment and reduce factors that cause hazards and diseases at work. This value set can be used as a guideline for work, guide living with care, and encourage society to support each other.
          Chairman of the Board of Directors of TOSH, Mr. Samai Chotisakul, said that a protective culture would create standards for occupational health, safety, and working environment at all levels. This will lead to reduced statistics on occupational hazards and diseases in the long run, resulting in lower production costs. It will also create morale and encouragement for operators to act sustainably by enhancing safety values to achieve conscious practices in every moment and to comply with current regulations, as well as being considerate and attentive to those around them.
          The Director of TOSH, Mrs. Bubpha Phanpeng, added that the objective of the 35th National Occupational Health and Safety Fair (Thailand Safe@Work#35) is for employers, employees, and those involved in the public and private sectors, to realize the topic’s importance. The event is a space to exchange academic experiences in developing concepts of occupational health, safety, and working environment under the “Forward Culture of Prevention for Safety Thailand.” Activities within the event consisted of academic seminars in both on-site and online formats. Seminar topics included safety management strategies, laws and standards, best practice presentations, and occupational health and safety innovations. An exhibition and activities were organized in three areas: The Health Me With T- OSH Zone, the Education Zone, and the Innovation Zone. There were also safety demonstrations for working at heights, helping those who suffer from danger from heights, resuscitation in confined spaces, and the use of an automatic defibrillator.
