Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti welcomed Mrs. Sujin Rungsawang, president of the National Informal Labour Coordination Center and a committee of 60 people who showed their appreciation to the Permanent Secretary for supporting labour volunteers in Bangkok. She said that the Labour Minister has given importance to providing better access to government services among the informal worker population, by providing professional support, access to funding, health promotion, occupational safety, hygiene and environment, strengthened networks and solid social security foundations. The Ministry of Labour initiated the Bangkok labour volunteer project in 2017 with 228 people. In 2018, it plans to provide training and share information about the Ministry of Labour’s missions and the duties of labour volunteers, and then issue identification cards to all training successors.

Labour volunteers are currently the responsibility of different units in affiliation with the Ministry of Labour, working under the same regulations governing labour volunteers B.E. 2548. Labour volunteers are currently dispersed across 76 provinces, representing the Ministry of Labour at the local level, disseminating information, coordinating tasks, gathering information and assisting in problem resolution. In addition to this are labour volunteers in 13 cities across 12 countries whose duties are to disseminate any news, survey living conditions of Thai workers abroad and to coordinate any assistance needed between relevant units in Thailand and abroad. There are currently 15,240 labour volunteers regionally; 7,255 are compensated and 7,985 are not compensated. In addition to this are the 872 labour volunteers abroad, bringing the total to 16,112 people.
