Deputy Labour Minister Organizes Stage for Teak Carpenters to Support Skill Development to International Levels

          The Deputy Labour Minister revealed that Phrae City would host a skill competition for teak furniture to enhance the development of skilled workers to international standards this August 28 to 29.

          On August 27, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat said that the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development (DSD) has an important mission to develop the skills and potential of the workforce to a professional standard. It aims to increase the workforce’s ability to compete in various arenas. In addition to the training and skill testing, one of the DSD’s important activities carried out regularly is skill competitions. This is one of the ways to promote the development of labour skills to reach international standards, stimulate the development of labour potential, and add economic value to increase the country’s competitiveness on the world stage.

          Prof. Narumon added that she was assigned to the concept of driving Thailand together. Phrae has a great intention to develop and promote raw materials and products of Phrae Province to be widely known and develop the area’s labour potential to keep up with changes and market demands, to create jobs and sustainable careers for people in the community. On August 28-29, 2021, the Phrae Skill Development Office has scheduled a competition for skilled workers in teak furniture, consisting of 10 teams in the carpentry branch and ten teams in the furniture painting branch. People can join to watch and encourage the competition participants, join in the fun, and receive prizes via the “Phrae Skill Development Office” Facebook fan page.

          The teak furniture craftsmanship competition will develop the skill and potential of teak carpenters to meet professional standards, supporting craftsmen to develop teak furniture styles to be more marketable. It is also an opportunity to show off their craftsmanship in developing teak furniture to have a modern style and quality that meets the needs of consumers.

          “I would like to cheer on all 20 teams that have been selected to compete in this competition and wish the competition a success. I hope this leads to creating new knowledge and inspiring youths and the public to see the importance of teak and the ability to produce products to meet the demands of both domestic and international markets,” concluded the Deputy Minister of Labour.
