Deputy Permanent Secretary Delvers Statement to ILO Affirming Thailand’s View on Human Centricity for Sustainable Development

           The Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour gave a statement at the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, which revealed that Thailand’s agreement with the human-centered agenda from the foundation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan and the 20-year national strategy under the investment in people’s potential, rules and regulations regarding work, along with the law to be in line with the convention. The Deputy Permanent Secretary also insisted on developing sustainable work into practice without leaving anyone behind.

 

 

         On June 18, 2019, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradej Waleeittikul was assigned by the Minister of Labour to preside over the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Breakfast Meeting at the President Wilson Geneva Hotel. The meeting was held on the occasion of the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference, hosted by Thailand, as the president of ASEAN regular member of the faculty of the International Labour Organization and ASEAN ILO coordinator.
         The event was honoured by the ASEAN Labour Minister and Tomoko Nishimoto, the ILO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific. The event also launched the “ASEAN – ILO: Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” to celebrate the ILO’s 100th anniversary in 2019.
         On the same day, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suradech Waleeittikul, as the head of the government delegation also made a statement at the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC). He said that Thailand agreed with the human-centered agenda as laid down in the National Economic and Social Development Plan and the 20-year national strategic framework, which should be based on three principles including human capital investment, rules and regulations regarding work and jobs that are valuable and sustainable.
         “Thailand has taken serious steps to improve domestic laws in accordance with the ILO convention and is committed to implementing the 2020 agenda for sustainable development, without leaving anyone behind and giving priority to business and human rights Thailand will cooperate fully with the ILO and all sectors, both domestically and internationally for the next journey to the future of a brighter work for everyone,” concluded Mr. Suradech.
