Content Description

The Labour Minister expressed his condolences for the death of a Thai worker from Covid-19 in Saudi Arabia. He ordered the Counsellor Minister on Labour to track outstanding wages and the Provincial Labour Office and agencies in Lampang to inform relatives and support the deceased’s family.

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin gave his condolences to the death of a Thai worker from Covid-19 in Saudi Arabia. The incident was reported by Commander Lieutenant Vittavat Koodprasert, Minister Counselor (on Labour) from the Labour Office in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh). The report stated that on August 26, 2020, at 11.00 hours, the Labour Office in Riyadh coordinated with the Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh, saying that a 67-year-old Thai worker who was treated for Covid-19 had passed away. Investigations showed that this Thai worker was a Lampang resident, working with an employer called Al-Oasis Contracting & Trading in Jubail.

Minister Counselor (on Labour) from the Labour Office in Riyadh reported that they inquired with the employer and found that this worker was a general mechanic and was admitted to hospital since August 6, 2020. For details about the work, salary, and hire date, the supervisor was unaware of the details. Therefore, they asked the company’s HR department to calculate the service termination pay according to the amount of time worked, unpaid wages, and other payment. This will then be certified at the Labour Office before sending them to the Labour Office in Riyadh for verification to be paid to the family members.

For support, the Labour Minister has ordered the Labour Office in Riyadh to follow up on benefits, especially the employer’s unpaid wages and other rights according to the law. In addition, the Labour Minister ordered the workers in Lampang and agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Lampang to contact the relatives and support the deceased’s family. As for the management of the body, officials will process the corpses of people infected with Covid-19 by burial following measures taken by the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia, on the next schedule.
