Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin showed concern for the incident where a large cement sheet fell on the workers while building a condominium in Chonburi. The incident caused the deaths of two Myanmar workers and two serious injuries. He ordered the Provincial Employment Office, the Labour Protection and Welfare Office, and the Social Security Office in Chonburi to investigate the facts, gather evidence, inform the person in charge, and check the status of the insured workers to assist benefits following the law. The incident occurred at 07:30 hours today (August 16, 2020). Found at the scene was a construction site for a 30-story condominium building located at Sukhumvit Rd., Khlong Nam Mueng, Muang, Chonburi. During the time of the incident, over 10 Myanmar workers worked overtime on the 7th floor of the condominium. A crane lifted an 800-kilogram piece of cement to attach to the side panels, putting down steel scaffolding. More than 10 Myanmar workers helped to pull the structure in place but were unable to do so successfully because of the heavyweight, causing the movement to go backward, causing 4 Burmese workers to fall to the first floor, from a height of about 40 meters. The fall resulted in two workers’ deaths, Mr. Gansu, 48, and Mr. Kim Mong, 32. The other two workers were seriously injured, including Mr. Kikai, 45, and Mr. Wanyasai, 23, both of whom were taken to Burapha University Hospital.

Mr. Suchart continued that in the investigation and assistance of the injured and injured workers, the Ministry of Labour has instructed relevant agencies in the area to inspect the scene, gather evidence, and inform the persons in charge. He also ordered a reporting of the situation and checked the workers’ insured status to consider assisting the workers suffering from work hazards, following the procedures to continue receiving remedial legal benefits.
