Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin showed concern for employees from Alpha, whose employment was terminated. He instructed the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and its affiliated agencies to investigate and expedite assistance for legal entitlements.
On June 14, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the case of Alpha Performance Group Co., Ltd., which sent a letter of termination of employment with effect to employees on June 13, causing approximately 400 employees to lose their jobs immediately. The compensation remains unclear. In this regard, the Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, showed concern about the affected employees. Therefore, the Labor Minister instructed agencies under the Ministry of Labour in the area to work proactively and follow up on the cause of the announcement of business closure and dismissal of employees and accelerate assistance and remedies for legal benefits. Furthermore, he ordered the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to send officers to investigate and provide assistance on legal entitlements.
The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General Mr. Apinya Sucharitanan said that the Bangkok Labour Protection and Welfare Office Area 5 inspected the case and found that Alpha Performance Group Co., Ltd. (Alpha) has an office located at 338 Ratchadaphisek Road, Huai Khwang, Bangkok. The company issued a letter terminating employees’ employment on June 12, 2021, with the effect on June 13, 2021, causing approximately 400 employees to immediately lose their jobs. The compensation remains unclear. The company has informed employees that it will hold a meeting to discuss compensation today (June 14, 2021). The cause of the business closure was due to the company’s problems in the fast-growing e-commerce package delivery business and fierce competition.
Mr. Apinya said that the Labour Protection and Welfare Office Bangkok Area 5 has followed up on compliance with the law for initial assistance and has coordinated with agencies under the Ministry of Labour. It paid a visit to assist with related missions such as advising legal benefits, using unemployment insurance, finding job vacancies, professional skills training, and applying for unemployment benefits from the Social Security Fund and Employee Welfare Fund.
