Labour Minister Visits Macao; Talks with Service Sector Business CEO, Checks on Thai Workers’ Welfare, Accelerates Upskilling and Overseas Market Expansion

          May 8, 2026, at 11.00 hours local time in the Macao Special Administrative Region – Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, and his delegation held official labour discussions with Mr. Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Chief Executive Officer of COD Resorts Limited, and senior executives of COD Resorts Limited, a company operating a full-service hotel and resort business, with a view to promoting cooperation on the employment of Thai workers and inspecting the living conditions of Thai workers employed at the establishment. Also in attendance were Mr. Surachart Thienthong, Secretary to the Labour Minister, Mr. Kritikakon Wongsawangphanit, Adviser to the Labour Minister, Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kotcharak, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Somchai Maruksriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, Director-General of the Department of Skills Development, and Ms. Oranong Srisuvitthanon, Minister Counselor (Labour), Labour Office in Hong Kong. The meeting was held at the Morpheus Hotel in the Macao Special Administrative Region.

          On this occasion, Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, expressed his gratitude to the company for its confidence in the capabilities of Thai workers and its continued employment of Thai nationals. At present, over 45 Thai workers are employed by COD Resorts Limited in various roles, including food and beverage service staff, spa therapists, receptionists, and butlers, all of whom are well cared for by the company and receive internationally standardized benefits.

          Mr. Julapun disclosed that this visit to Macao presented an excellent opportunity to exchange views on employment needs, enabling the Ministry of Labour to prepare and develop the skills of Thai workers in line with the company’s requirements, in accordance with the “Train to Fund, Graduate to Work” policy. Discussions were also held to promote government-facilitated placement through the Department of Employment; most recently, in April, a further eight candidates successfully passed the selection process, reflecting continued confidence in the calibre of Thai workers.

          “The Ministry of Labour is committed to driving forward opportunities for capable and suitably qualified Thai workers to take up employment at COD Resorts Limited, and stands ready to support ongoing cooperation in the future. It is our sincere hope that COD Resorts Limited will consider giving Thai workers priority in its hiring,” said Mr. Julapun.

          During the visit, the Minister of Labour and his delegation also met with representatives of Thai workers to enquire about their wellbeing and offer encouragement to those living and working abroad. The Minister reiterated that the Ministry of Labour remains firmly committed to supporting and protecting the rights and interests of Thai workers, so that they may work with security and dignity on the international stage.
