Content Description

On August 13, 2021, the Labour Minister commenced an online meeting event with three provinces in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), namely Rayong, Chon Buri, and Chachoengsao via Zoom. He met with 126 establishments that have 8,910 positions available. The Ministry of Labour’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics) Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the opening ceremony at the Tien Achakul Meeting Room, 10th floor, Department of Employment.

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin revealed that organizing the “Meeting the Workforce Online” event was under the proactive recruitment program to develop the Eastern Economic Corridor. It is a fully online employment promotion effort, stemming from the awareness of the safety and well-being of workers affected by the COVID-19 situation and in response to government policy to upgrade government services by integrating digital technology to serve the people. The initiative promotes convenience, speed, and cost savings, whereby meetings are organized to meet workers online at the same time in three provinces of the EEC area, consisting of Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao. The area has 126 leading establishments such as Double A (1991), Intertek Specialty Glass, Shun Yi International Trading (Chonburi Branch), Summit Chugoku Seira, Bridgestone Carbon Black (Thailand), and Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand), for example. The companies have 8,910 job vacancies, including production workers, engineers, accountants, financial officers, and administrative staff. The roles require the high school to bachelor’s degree qualifications. Activities included a demonstration of over 30 independent occupations, such as making E-books, teaching investments and trading stocks, influencer coordinator careers, consulting for personal/juristic tax planning, healthy cookie making, sewing masks, and soap and herbal shampoo making. There were also lectures to educate about job applications—for example, online job interview techniques to pass quickly. Lectures also included the labour market in the post-COVID era, educational development before entering the labour market, education and the future, EEC employers’ views on working in Thailand, and the skills needed for job seekers.

“Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, gives the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) especially because it is an area with potential to attract investment from the private and foreign sectors in the long run. Concerning labour, there is the EEC Labour Administration Center, which is an important organization in driving labour, the economy, and society, causing economic expansion through the promotion of investment in the area which will lead to a lot of employment. This event received attention from the International Labour Office (ILO) for Thailand, Cambodia, and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, to launch the Young People Who Build the Future Project – Promoting Employability of Youth in Thailand. The event was organized together with the Rayong Provincial Employment Office. Thank you to all sectors for giving importance to the employment of the people, especially employers/businesses participating in job applications, and the media for playing an important role in disseminating the news of the event to the public,” said the Labour Minister.

The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Phairoj Chotikasathian, said that the organization of the “Meeting the Workforce Online” event would help those looking for jobs, including new graduates, the unemployed and those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They can apply for jobs with employers/employers who want to hire and interview for jobs instantly online. This reduces travel costs, traffic, and direct meetings. As a result, it is safe and helps to stop the spread of COVID-19. This is the implementation of urgent economic measures to meet the target group by promoting employment and maintaining employment within the country, supporting the economy in both the manufacturing and service sectors to recover quickly.
