On June 21, 2021, at 14.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuwawit to participate in the subcommittee meeting to prepare for the APEC Economic Area Leadership Meeting and related meetings during Thailand’s hosting of the 2022 APEC Meeting no. 2/2021. The meeting was hosted online via the Cisco Webex program. The meeting monitored the progress of defining the main topics and determining the concrete outcomes of APEC in 2022, which Thailand will host. Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare Mrs. Sopa Kieatnircha also joined the meeting. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Don Pramudwinai chaired the meeting at the meeting room on the 15th floor, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare.
As Thailand will host the APEC Meeting 2022, the national committee will prepare for the APEC Economic Area Leadership Meeting, and related meetings during Thailand’s hosting of the 2022 APEC Meeting issued to appoint a subcommittee. The subcommittee is responsible for determining the roles and stances of Thailand for the APEC Economic Area Leadership Meeting and other related meetings during Thailand’s hosting of the APEC Meeting in 2022. The main topics were set, including issues to be pushed in various fields of cooperation to promote the dynamics of cooperation, the status and role of Thailand in the region as well as determine the strategic issues that Thailand wants to drive with the economic zones participating in the meeting.
Today’s meeting acknowledged three key issues: 1) Comprehensive growth promotion. 2) Trade and investment facilitation, and 3) Revitalization of connectivity, especially travel and tourism. The ministry responsible for reporting progress on the preparation of key deliverables consists of 1) The creation of the Bangkok Goals on BCG. 2) The implementation of the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP), and 3) Preparation of APEC Frequent Travel Card (AFTC), building on the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC). The subcommittee on information has agreed, and the meeting acknowledged the progress of Thailand’s preparation for hosting the APEC in 2022 in terms of formalities and administration, security and traffic, and public relations.
