The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and committee visited the operations, management and registration of foreign workers who came to work in Bahrain. There are 1,742 Thai workers in Bahrain, 71 of whom were illegal. The committee met with Thai restaurant operators, the Thai Chef Community of Abu Dhabi and labour volunteers, and acknowledged the labour situation, ready to work closely with the Embassy.
On June 24, 2019, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul and the Department of Employment’s Inspector-General Mrs. Paween Weechit, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Inspector-General Mr. Manoj Saenggaew, the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General Ms. Sumnatha Praisuwanna, Minister Counsellor (on Labour) Lieutenant Witawat Kooprasert, from the Labour Office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and the Director from the Office of Inspection and Evaluation, Office of the Permanent Secretary Mr. Achwin Pujchakan visited the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain. The LMRA is an agency that supervises and issues work permits and provides comprehensive labour assistance to foreign workers. Ausamah Adulla Al Absi (CEO) welcomed the visiting committee, provided a briefing and brought the committee to observed operations of the agency in managing and registering foreign workers traveling to work in Bahrain. In terms of data, the LMRA presented information from the database, which showed 1,742 Thai workers in Bahrain, comprising 71 illegal workers.
In the evening, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, committee and the Minister Counsellor (on Labour) in Abu Dhabi, with Thai restaurant operators, the Thai Chef Community of Abu Dhabi and labour volunteers at the Desert Lotus restaurant, in the One to One Hotel. Then they met and discussed with Ambassador of Thailand to Abu Dhabi, Mr. Warawut Phupinin, to acknowledge the labour situation in the United Arab Emirates and cooperation with the labour department at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The discussion concluded that the labour department had worked well with the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Currently, 4,451 Thai workers are working in the United Arab Emirates, comprising 2,888 legal workers and 1,563 illegal workers. The workers are mostly in construction, spa massage staff and chefs/cook, with an average income of 15,000 Baht per month.
