MOL Organizes Career Guidance Network Seminar 2020

          The Labour Minister assigned the Secretariat to the Labour Minister to commence a career guidance seminar for 2020, gathering personnel related to career guidance, to exchange ideas and gain knowledge in hopes to produce workers in line with market needs.

          On January 6, 2020, at 09.00 hours, Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nanthadet Meksawat chaired the commencement of the “Career Guidance Network Seminar Year 2020”. The Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, also joined the event at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkram conference room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.

          Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nanthadet Meksawat said that today, technology changes the ways that businesses operate, following the rapidly changing environment. This is true, especially in today’s digital technology era, where a channel of income is based on growing with digital native culture, competing effectively with an ecosystem that works following the complex needs of customers. The workforce is moving or moving quickly; therefore, career guidance for students who will become part of the nation’s future workforce must keep up with the changing environment, to have guidelines for further studies or to work in a career that matches their knowledge, ability, and skills, in line with the needs of the future labour market. The efforts will also contribute to reducing labour shortages and produce workers that meet the labour market demand. Thus, the career guidance network seminar was organized for attendees, consisting of guidance teachers, teachers, professors, educational personnel, and staff from the Department of Employment, totaling 179 participants, who practice career guidance. The seminar facilitated the opportunity to learn and share experiences, develop knowledge for new and broader career guidance, as well as to be informed of the current job market and future career trends. Knowledge gained can be used as information for advice and career guidance for students, to allow students to prepare and choose further studies or a career appropriately. It also creates cooperation on the topic of career guidance between the Department of Employment and the educational sector. 

          The Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkunand added that the event had a lecture entitled “Disruptive Technology and Future Career Directions” by Dr. Saowararat Rattanakafu, senior academic. Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) and a talk on “Digital Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges in Manpower Entering the Workforce.” Speakers who participated in the seminar consisted of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thongchai Somboon, a professor at the Department of Educational Fundamentals, Faculty of Education, Ramkhamhaeng University, Mr. Theerawut Thongpak, Director of the Digital Mobility Division, Mr. Thakon Piyaphan, Chairman of Krungsri Consumer and Executive Director of Digital Banking and Innovation, Bank of Ayudhya, a successor in the Digital Transformation era and Mr. Pongsa Saanchai-ngam, Labour Committee, the Federation of Thai Industries.

          On this occasion, the Department of Employment’s Director-General awarded certificates to the guidance counselors volunteering in the career guidance network of the Department of Employment. The certificates were awarded to 11 people who have served for 5 consecutive years, divided into 8 people who have been career guidance network volunteers for 6 consecutive years and 3 career guidance network volunteers for 5 successive years. The certificated were given as a token of appreciation and morale to the career guidance network volunteers from the Department of Employment.
