Content Description

On July 11, 2021, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, spoke about the case where a media outlet presented news that the Social Security Office is unable to provide thorough remedies and only supporting Section 33 insured persons, whereas Section 33 insured persons and people in the provinces have also been affected. From checking the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office’s Facebook page, people have inquired and asked about measures that do not thoroughly cover insured persons, including people not in the red control areas but also affected.

Mrs. Theanrat clarified that in this regard, the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office had paid compensation benefits in case of unemployment due to force majeure from Covid-19 to insured persons the social security system for 50 percent of the wages, in case of being affected by government measures in the highest control areas in the six provinces, namely Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon. This is because people in the social security system have paid contributions following the rules of remittance specified in the ministerial regulations. As for the case where the government pays additional compensation to employees who are in the social security system, at 2,000 Baht per person, it is because the employees have to stop work according to the order of the CCSA, and these employees already have a database in the social security system.

For entrepreneurs and employees seeking remedies in this respect, employees must inform the employer to register to the social security system and be a part of the database to help and receive benefits, including various welfares that should be received from the government in the future.
