The Permanent Secretary of Labour led officials and staff in the Ministry of Labour’s “5S” activity kickoff, joining forces to keep the workplace clean, tidy and safe for the satisfaction and confidence of service users.
On December 6, 2018, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark presided over the kickoff for the Ministry of Labour’s “5S” activities at the Ministry of Labour’s foyer on the ground floor. In his speech, he said that the “5S” activities were widely recognized for its organizational effectiveness and personnel development. The “5S” activities are “clear away”, “clean”, “convenient”, “complete hygiene” and “create a habit”. The first three contribute to workplace development and the last two contribute to people development, whereby the obvious benefits of the activities are a clean workplace and environment, more disciplined staff with good physical and mental health, eliminate resource wastage, materials and budget, and reduce the need to maintain additional documents. Additionally, the “5S” activities also help reduce unit costs.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour said that the “5S” activities are conducive to workplace quality, efficiency and safety, and create a positive attitude in the work of staff within the unit. The initiative also contributes to a boost in satisfaction and confidence among service users by bringing the “5S” activities as the first step of management that will lead to improved operations and performance in the workplace. It also helps to develop a sense of standard in the workplace, which is the basis for development into a quality management system by international standards.
“This event expresses the power of unity and is an opportunity for participants to take care of the workplace to be clean, beautiful and safe. We hope that all of you will bring experiences and share them with your families and communities, to join forces and promote the cause to benefit yourself and the nation,” said Mr. Jarin.
