The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment opened a new labour in fishing coordination center in Satun province to provide comprehensive labour services to facilitate employers and workers. The center focuses on proactive services to increase efficiency, reduce travel expenses to contact government officials and to prevent, suppress, block and eliminate human trafficking in the form of fishery workers.
On June 28, 2019, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the opening ceremony of the Satun labour in fishing coordination center located in the 3-storey commercial building, No. 700/3, Moo 4, Pak Nam, La-ngu, Satun. Director-General of the Department of Employment Mrs. Petcharat Sinauy gave an address, together with Deputy Permanent Secretary Pol.Maj. Romayong Surakitbanharn, the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General Mr. Ananchai Uthaipattanachep, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul, the Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General Mrs. Thenrat Nawamawat and the ministry’s executive committee also participated. Satun Provincial Governor Mr. Jaruwat Kliengklao welcomed the committee on the occasion.
The Permanent Secretary said that the Cabinet passed a resolution on October 9, 2012, to set up a provincial labour in fishery coordination center to prevent, suppress, block and eliminate human trafficking among fishery workers, to be piloted in 7 provinces, consisting of Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Trat, Chumphon, Songkhla, Ranong and Satun, to employ legitimate workers allowed to work in the fishing industry only. The pilot will increase to the establishment of 15 centers to cover the 22 coastal provinces.
The new Satun labour in fishery coordination center was established to replace the original center, located at 753/2 Moo 4, Khlong Khut, Muang, Satun. The center provided iris scanning, fishery and aquatic processing, inquiries about the need to hire fishing workers, promotion for entrepreneurs to follow laws and the import of foreign workers to work following labour protection laws. The center examines employment conditions, operating conditions, living conditions to ensure compliance with labour protection laws, campaigns to promote businesses to come together to tackle human trafficking problems to international standards.
This Satun labour in fishery coordination center will provide foreign labour management services, iris scanning, fishery and aquatic processing, notification of entry-exit of foreign workers, the addition of employers, submission of requests to hire foreign workers through MOUs and consultation for legal employment of foreign workers. The Satun Provincial Employment Office has increased services to people in the promotion of work. It provides services in recruitment, receiving job vacancies, registration for unemployed insurers, services to establishments, students, people with disabilities, the elderly and the public. The office will also bring in the job box to provide a full service, to facilitate and focus on proactive services to increase efficiency, thus reducing travel expenses to contact the public.
