The 8 include Lamphun, Nonthaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Suphan Buri, Chon Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima and Ranong which will complete the process by this 16 September.”
“In the next steps, migrant workers will have to verify their citizenship according to their country’s individual processes. Burmese workers can proceed at any of the 9 centers in 8 provinces, which include 2 centers in Samut Sakhon and 1 in Samut Prakarn, Chiang Rai, Tak, Ranong, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and Songkhla. Service fees can be paid at the counter services and then the receipt can be used as evidence to proceed with the verification process. Laotian workers on the other hand will need to return and abide by the steps in the MOU, whereas Cambodian workers can continue in Bangkok, Rayong and Songkhla provinces. The Ministry of Labour will monitor the one stop services of each country to ensure that the target it met – if not, new measures may need to be implemented to meet the 31 December 2017 completion date,” added Mrs. Petcharat.
The deputy spokesperson concluded, “After announcing the Royal Decree on Managing the Work of Aliens B.E. 2560, employers applied for an additional quota of 102,036 migrant workers through MOUs from the original figure of 697,340 workers. From today onwards, migrant workers being employed in Thailand must follow the MOU processes only.”
