Content Description

Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Pattraporn Samatrat commenced the seminar project to enhance labour management efficiency by creating a news and monitoring network for situations affecting the Ministry of Labour.

Today (August 31, 2020) at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Pattaraporn Samantarat presided over the commencement of the seminar project to enhance labour management efficiency by creating a news and monitoring network for situations affecting the Ministry of Labour. The occasion took place at the Grand Ratchada Room, 5th floor, Than Thip Building, Chao Phraya Park Hotel, Bangkok. Ms. Pattraporn said, “The Ministry of Labour is an agency that has an important mission to care for, protect and manage labour welfare for those in the working-age; this includes formal and informal workers, Thai workers working abroad, and foreign workers working in Thailand legally. The economic, social, and political climate, together with the global pandemic, has caused volatility. This has impacted the management of Thailand and the workforce greatly. Furthermore, climate change has resulted in heavy rains, floods, and landslides in different areas, coupled with the coronavirus infection’s unprecedented pandemic. These are all risk factors affecting labour management. The Ministry of Labour has monitored important domestic and international news such as the Mindolle tropical storm in Laos, which resulted in heavy rains and an overflow of water in the upper north of Thailand. It has monitored the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement of labour leaders or workers connected with the filing of claims or protests. However, there are limitations to the sources of information, the news’s speed and accuracy, and the situation. The Ministry of Labour has a channel to follow the news during critical situations from agencies under the Ministry of Labour in the region, such as via telephone, line groups, and radio communications, but due to the limitation and incompleteness of the information, it has caused delays in decision making to resolve the problem in time.”

“The Ministry of Labour has an idea to increase efficiency for the above matters, focusing on establishing a network. The Ministry of Labour, therefore, asks for cooperation from government agencies and the private sector who have roles and duties regarding monitoring situations, to participate in the exchange of news and updates using radio communication channels under the Center for Amity Radio, Ministry of Labour. Those who join the network will have a network registration and a name assigned. There are already representatives from government agencies and the private sector operating to achieve this seminar’s objectives. The Ministry of Labour aims to gain cooperation from all sectors in joining a network with the Ministry of Labour for information exchange during critical situations to further drive its missions to success.”

The seminar’s objective was to create a diverse and in-depth network of news and situations monitoring that impact the Ministry of Labour. Efforts will facilitate the exchange of important news and situations for relevant officers to be used in their operations and enhance the Ministry of Labour’s image as an information agency. The efforts will further promote effective critical situations management, allowing executives to establish guidelines for providing services to people promptly. The seminar participants consisted of government officials and news officials from the Ministry of Labour, totaling 60 representatives from the public and private sectors involved in news and situations.
