Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the Prime Minister is concerned about Thai workers who died and were injured from the blasts in the Hamas attack. He instructed the immediate support for legally entitled benefits and coordinated with relevant agencies to immediately inform and support the families.
On May 18, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the situation of the Israeli-Palestinian unrest following the attacks by Hamas in Gaza. The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased Thai workers and cared for those injured by the blast. The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Labour to expedite assistance to the relatives and families of Thai workers who have died and been injured and to provide immediate assistance for legal benefit entitlements.
Mr. Suchart added that the Labour Department’s reports from the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv provided information from Mr. Eyal Siso, Deputy Director-General, Department of Consular Affairs, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The report said that in the wake of the attack by Hamas in Gaza on May 18 at 14.35 hours, an explosion killed two Thai workers and injured eight more. In addition, 15 other workers have symptoms of panic. The injured people were referred to Soroka Hospital for treatment. The Labour Department contacted Mr. Preecha Sae-Li, a Thai worker who was slightly injured, saying that if Mr. Preecha and other Thai workers affected by the incident need support from the Labour Department to coordinate or provide assistance in any matter, to contact the hotline immediately. The Labour Department is coordinating with the relevant departments to obtain the names of the deceased and injured workers. It will closely monitor and take care of the injured Thai people.
“For initial assistance, I have assigned the Labour Office by the Labour Department at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv to visit the injured and ensure their entitled benefits, to receive a subsidy from the fund to help job seekers to work abroad. I have also instructed the International Cooperation Bureau to coordinate with agencies under the Ministry of Labour to visit the families and relatives of the Thai workers who died and were injured from this incident, to encourage and inform the families of the incident and the legal benefit entitlements,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
