The Labour Minister Welcomed ILO Director-General Guy Ryder for Collaboration to Improve Quality of Life for Thai Workers

           The Labour Minister welcomed the ILO’s Director-General Mr. Guy Ryder on a visit to Thailand, to tighten cooperation in raising the quality of life of the workforce to international standards.

 

 

         Today (July 22, 2019) at the Labour Minister’s Ministerial Room, 6th Floor, Ministry of Labour, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul welcomed the ILO’s Director-General Mr. Guy Ryder and committee on courtesy call, on the occasion of visiting Thailand as a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the ILO’s 100th anniversary. In addition, the visiting party congratulated the Labour Minister on his appointment and membership of the Cabinet. In this visit to Thailand, Mr. Guy Ryder also has the objective of attending the 8th World Education Congress hosted by the Education International (EI), a federation of world-class teachers and educational personnel.
         M.R. Chatumongol said that the Thai government and the Ministry of Labour are delighted by the ILO Director-General’s visit to Thailand. On this occasion, he congratulated the visiting party for the ILO’s 100th anniversary 2019, in which Thailand has been a member since it was co-founded in 1919. He affirmed the intention and commitment to cooperate with ILO in promoting social justice and improving the quality of life among the workforce through close collaboration. He thanked the ILO for inviting Thailand to be one of 24 countries globally, in organizing live events to celebrate the 100th anniversary. The Thai government has the intention and determination to raise the standard of labour protection following international standards the framework for sustainable development, to create valuable work for everyone. The Labour Minister thanked the ILO for supporting Thailand in the implementation of the ratification protocol of the ILO Convention No. 29 on forced labor,1930, and Convention No. 188 on work in the fishing sector, 2007, including the support for tripartite discussions to support the future of work.
         On this occasion, M.R. Chatumongol also congratulated Mr. Guy Ryder on the success of the new international labour standards on the elimination of violence and harassment in the working world and the ILO Centenary Declaration, which was approved at the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference. This also included progress in driving the national plan on valuable work which will require close collaboration with Thailand.
