The Labour Minister expressed his condolences for the death of a 39-year-old Thai worker after staying in quarantine to monitor Covid-19 symptoms after returning to Thailand and staying for only one day. The Buriram Provincial Labour Office and agencies in Buriram were ordered to contact relatives for support. The Labour Minister had a teleconference with the Minister Counsellor on Labour about 5 Thai workers in Saudi Arabia who have died from Covid-19 infections. He showed concern for Thai workers and ordered officials to monitor the situation closely. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin shared his condolences for the case of a 39-year-old Thai worker who returned from Israel, who decided to jump from the balcony of a hotel in State Quarantine and died during their stay in quarantine to monitor Covid-19 symptoms, after returning to Thailand for only one day. On July 28, 2020, at 09.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol attended the opening ceremony of the Royal Volunteers event with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha who presided over the ceremony, on the occasion of the HM the King’s birthday on July 28, 2020, at Sanam Luang. In this event, the Ministry of Labour organized a booth called the “New Normal, Thai workers under the royal umbrella”, serving people from July 28-31, 2020. The Ministry of Labour is concerned for 28 Thai workers returning from Uzbekistan. It ordered the Suvarnabhumi Checkpoint of the Department of Employment to look after the workers and check the information on the fund to help job seekers to work abroad. On June 16, 2020, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol reported the Prime Minister’s orders to help the 28 Thai workers who returned from working in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The workers were abandoned by their employers and employment agencies, who had not paid salaries since March 2020. The Labour Minister’s Assistant observed operations at the reporting center at the Social Security Office’s Headquarters in Nonthaburi, urging officers to conduct inspections on a case-by-case basis so that employees whose names are missing can receive benefits as soon as possible.
