MOL Discusses the Case of Wingspan Labour Union Termination

          On May 28, 2020, at 09.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul attended the meeting on the case of Mr. Charlie Loisung, Vice Chairman of the Thai Workers Reconciliation Committee and the employees of Wingspan Services Company Limited who were temporarily suspended due to force majeure. The visiting party met to discuss measures to assist employers, employees, and insured persons affected by the COVID-19 virus pandemic and to clarify the layoff situation which will lead to the problem-solving process and prevention of using the opportunity to terminate employees. MOL Drives Model Farm Project to Promote Self-Employment in a Fight Against COVID-19

            On May 26, 2020, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat as the Ministry of Labour’s spokesperson observed the progress of “The COVID-19 Resistant Farm Project Model” at the Farm Project Model initiated by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in Ratchaburi Province, Tanaosri, Suan Phueng, Ratchaburi. She said that the Ministry of Labour has a sense of divine grace for His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen in providing an area on the model farm following the initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The project has resulted in employment in the area, which is an urgent employment activity. As a result of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, many businesses have closed and employees terminated, causing workers to face unemployment, a lack of income, and returning to their hometowns. MOL Joins Royal Thai Volunteer Center in Model Farm Employment Project to Create Jobs and Income in a Fight Against COVID-19

                The Ministry of Labour together with the Royal Thai Volunteer Center implemented the project to resolve vocational issues by 2020, including the urgent employment activity “The COVID-19 Resistant Farm Project Model”. The initiative aims to provide people who have become unemployed from the COVID-19 effects and drought situations, to have jobs and income.                 On May 19, 2020, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat as the Ministry of Labour’s spokesperson observed the progress of the COVID-19 Resistant Sample Farm Project Model at the Farm Project Model initiated by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in Sing Buri Province, Moo 1 and 2, Tha Kham and Moo 3, Wihan Khao, Khai Bang Rachan, Sing Buri. Labour Minister Accelerates SSO in Approving Unemployment Benefits from Force Majeure; Has Already Paid Over 2.5 Billion Baht

          The Labour Minister reported the operations in paying unemployment benefits from force majeure. Close to 1 million insured persons have applied for the benefits. Approvals have been granted for 490,000 people already, totaling 2.5 billion Baht in payments. The Ministry of Labour will work with employers to certify the termination or suspension of employees within May 8, 2020, to complete payments for the first batch of employees by May 15, 2020.           Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul disclosed to the media about the operations in paying unemployment benefits due to force majeure, in the event that insured employees are not working or the employer has not allowed them to work due to close contact to persons infected with COVID-19. Circumstances also include employers stopping business operations on their own, or according to government orders, impacting insured persons whereby they do not receive wages.           On April 28, 2020, at 13.30 hours, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuvavit chaired a meeting of the Ministry of Labour’s Special Consideration Committee for Drug Practitioners No. 1/2020. The meeting took place at the Strategy and Planning Division meeting room, 13th floor, Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour. Labour Minister Instructs Department of Labour Protection and Welfares Officers to Help with Operations

         From monitoring the situation on payments of requested unemployment benefits in the event of force majeure with the Social Security Office, the key issues identified were the insufficient number of staff. Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul instructed the Social Security Office’s Secretariat Mr. Todsaphon Kritwongwiman to assess the problem and therefore issued the Ministry of Labour’s urgent order 219/2020, dated April 27, 2020, to “appoint officers under the Social Security Act B.E. 2020”. The order aims to appoint civil servants from the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare both in the central region, provincial areas, and Bangkok, as officials to have authority and duties concerning data verification if an employer temporarily suspends parts or the whole business. The officials will certify the inspection results and report back to the Social Security Office to facilitate the employer and insured persons. Labour Minister’s Assistant Leads Team to Nakhon Pathom to Create Awareness Among Foreign Workers about COVID-19 Prevention

                The Ministry of Labour joined forces with the Thai Red Cross, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health in visiting Nakhon Pathom to raise awareness among foreign workers on how to protect themselves from the spread of the Covid-19 virus. MOL Public Relations Committee Meets

           On March 4, 2020, at 09.30 hours, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuvavit chaired the meeting of the Ministry of Labour’s Public Relations Committee 2/2020. The meeting considered the public relations of the 28th National Skill Competition at the Samut Prakan Skill Development Institute 1, and the integration of agencies under the Ministry of Labour to create a social security journal. MOL Inspector-General Conducts Government Inspection in Pattani

            On February 26, 2020, at 09.00 hours, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian visited the Labour Inspection Area in Mueang Pattani, together with the head of government and officials under the Ministry of Labour. Pattani District Chief Mr. Adul Beardensen welcomed the visiting committee and listened to the report of the work by labour graduates. At 09.45 hours, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian and the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General Ms. Sumnatha Praisuwanna, along with the head of government and officials under the Ministry of Labour, visited the Port-In Port-Out (PIPO) Command Center in Pattani. Chief Inspector-General Visits Sisaket

          On February 27, 2020, the Ministry of Labour’s Chief Inspector-General Mr. Suwan Duangta and the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General Ms. Kettharin Chaisri visited the area to observe the occupational alleviation project and urgent employment activities in village weir repair and renovations with concrete, and then visited the Ban Hai volcanic clay dye community enterprise, Moo 6, Tum, Si Rattana, Sisaket, which was selected as a model for informal workers in Sisaket province. It has plans to support groups in dyeing, marketing, creating social security, and occupational health and safety.           Today (February 28, 2020) at 09.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Deputy Permanent Secret of Labour Ms. Amphan Tuwwit, chaired the second Employee Welfare Fund Committee Meeting 2020 at the Labour Relations Committee’s meeting room, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour. Labour Minister’s Advisor Commences Workshop on Capacity Building for Labour Volunteers in Roi Et

          On February 28, 2020, at 10.00 hours, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet presided over the opening ceremony of the workshop on capacity building for labour volunteers to integrate with the mission of the Ministry of Labour. The workshop aims to promote the prevention and resolution of drug issues in Roi Et for 2020 and took place at the Praduen room, Petcharat Garden Hotel, Nuea Mueang, Mueang Roi Et, Roi Et.
