วันที่ 1 มีนาคม 2566 นายสุชาติ ชมกลิ่น รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงแรงงาน พร้อมด้วย นายสุรชัย ชัยตระกูลทอง ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงแรงงาน นายบุญชอบ สุทธมนัสวงษ์ ปลัดกระทรวงแรงงาน และผู้บริหารระดับสูงกระทรวงแรงงาน เข้าพบ นางสาวอาจารี ศรีรัตนบัลล์ เอกอัครราชทูตไทย ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา ในโอกาสเดินทางเยือนประเทศออสเตรเลีย เพื่อประชุมหารือข้อราชการด้านแรงงาน ในประเด็นการให้ความคุ้มครองและสิทธิประโยชน์ของแรงงานไทยในภาคเกษตร และแนวโน้มการขยายตลาดแรงงานไทยในภาคอุตสาหกรรม ภาคการบริการ เช่น สาขานวดไทย สปา และพ่อครัว แม่ครัวไทย เพื่อเพิ่มโอกาสในการผลักดันให้แรงงานไทยไปทำงานในออสเตรเลียมากขึ้น ตลอดจนหารือในการจัดตั้งสำนักงานแรงงานในเครือรัฐออสเตรเลีย เพื่อเป็นศูนย์กลางในการติดต่อ และอำนวยความสะดวกให้แรงงานไทยที่ทำงาน ณ ทำเนียบเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา ประเทศออสเตรเลีย
นายสุชาติ กล่าวว่า วันนี้ผมและผู้บริหารกระทรวงแรงงาน ขอขอบคุณท่านเอกอัครราชทูตไทย ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา ที่ให้การดูแลแรงงานไทยเป็นอย่างดีทั้งในเรื่องของชีวิตความเป็นอยู่และได้รับการคุ้มครองสิทธิตามกฎหมาย การที่แรงงานไทยได้มีโอกาสมาทำงานที่ออสเตรเลียจะเป็นการช่วยพัฒนาทักษะฝีมือ สร้างรายได้ ช่วยยกระดับฐานะแก่ครอบครัว จากการหารือในวันนี้จะเป็นประโยชน์อย่างยิ่งต่อการขยายตลาดแรงงานให้แรงงานไทยสามารถเข้ามาทำงานในออสเตรเลีย ซึ่งเป็นตลาดที่มีศักยภาพเพิ่มมากขึ้น ในตำแหน่งงานที่เหมาะสม และได้รับค่าตอบแทนที่ดี รวมถึงการขยายตลาดแรงงานเพื่อให้ประเทศออสเตรเลียเปิดรับแรงงานในภาคเกษตรจากประเทศไทย เพื่อให้สอดคล้องตามนโยบายรัฐบาลที่ได้ให้ความสำคัญกับการส่งเสริมแรงงานไทยได้เดินทางไปทำงานต่างประเทศ เพื่อให้คนไทยมีงานทำ มีอาชีพ นำรายได้เข้าประเทศและช่วยเพิ่มขีดความสามารถในการแข่งขัน ส่วนการจัดตั้งสำนักงานแรงงานในออสเตรเลียนั้นขณะนี้กระทรวงแรงงานอยู่ระหว่างผลักดัน เพื่อให้เป็นหน่วยงานดูแล ประสาน ส่งเสริม และช่วยเหลือคุ้มครองสิทธิประโยชน์ของแรงงานไทย ซึ่งจะเป็นโอกาสสำคัญที่จะช่วยส่งเสริมให้เกิดความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยและออสเตรเลียในความร่วมมือด้านแรงงานมากขึ้นต่อไป
“ผมขอขอบคุณท่านเอกอัครราชทูตไทย ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา ที่ได้หารือในวันนี้ ถือเป็นนิมิตรหมายอันดีที่จะช่วยสร้างโอกาสให้แรงงานไทยได้มาทำงานในออสเตรเลียมากขึ้น สามารถเพิ่มทักษะฝีมือ ยกระดับรายได้ให้กับตนเอง และครอบครัว ที่สำคัญจะช่วยสร้างเม็ดเงินเข้าประเทศและเพิ่มขีดความสามารถในการแข่งขันอีกด้วย” นายสุชาติ กล่าวตอนท้าย
ด้าน นางสาวอาจารี ศรีรัตนบัลล์ เอกอัครราชทูตไทย ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา ประเทศออสเตรเลีย กล่าวว่า การมาเยือนออสเตรเลียของรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงแรงงานครั้งนี้จะเป็นโอกาสดีที่จะได้หารือเกี่ยวกับการขยายตลาดแรงงานให้คนไทยที่มีฝีมือ มีมาตรฐานได้มีโอกาสมาทำงานในออสเตรเลียเพิ่ม เนื่องจากขณะนี้ออสเตรเลียก็มีความต้องการแรงงานโดยเฉพาะแรงงานที่มีทักษะ เช่น ช่างเชื่อม ช่างเทคนิค วิศวกร และช่างทักษะฝีมือ นอกจากนี้ ทักษะภาษาอังกฤษตามเกณฑ์ขั้นต่ำตามที่ฝ่ายออสเตรเลียกำหนดเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญอีกประการหนึ่งในการเดินทางมาทำงานในออสเตรเลีย

On March 1, 2023, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, the Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives met with the Ambassador of Thailand in Canberra, Ms. Ajaree Srirattanaban, on the occasion of traveling to Australia to have a meeting to discuss labour affairs on the protection and benefits of Thai workers in the agricultural sector. The meeting also discussed the trend of expanding the Thai labour market in the industrial and service sector, such as Thai massage, spa, and Thai chefs, to increase opportunities to support more Thai workers to work in Australia. It also discussed the establishment of a Labour Office in the Commonwealth of Australia to be the center of contact and facilitate Thai workers. The occasion took place at the residence of the Ambassador in Canberra, Australia.
Mr. Suchart said that today, he and the Ministry of Labour’s executives thanked the Thai Ambassador in Canberra for taking good care of Thai workers regarding their quality of life and rights to ensure protection by the law. It allows Thai workers to work in Australia and will help them develop their skills, generate income, and help raise their families’ status. Today’s discussions will benefit the labour market expansion to allow Thai workers to work in Australia, which is a market that has potential, is in the appropriate position, and receive good compensation. It will also expand the labour market to allow Australia to accept workers in the agricultural sector from Thailand, in line with government policies that focus on promoting Thai workers to work abroad so that Thai people have jobs, have a career, bring income into the country and help increase the country’s competitiveness. As for establishing a labour office in Australia, the Ministry of Labour is currently pushing forward to be an agency to take care, coordinate, promote, and help protect the rights of Thai workers. This will be an important opportunity to help foster more cooperation between Thailand and Australia on labour.
“I would like to thank the Thai Ambassador in Canberra for the discussion today. It is a positive sign that will help create more opportunities for Thai workers to work in Australia, providing opportunities to enhance skills, raise the level of income for workers and their families, and most importantly, it will help generate money for the country and increase competitiveness,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
The Ambassador of Thailand in Canberra, Ms. Ajaree Srirattanaba, said that the Labour Minister’s visit to Australia was a good opportunity to discuss expanding the labour market for skilled Thai workers. It promotes a standard and opportunity to work in Australia. Australia currently needs workers, especially skilled workers such as welders, technicians, engineers, and skilled craftsmen. In addition, the basic English language skills required by Australia are another important factor in traveling to work in Australia.
