Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the ceremony on signing the Memorandum of Understanding to promote the ‘Thai kitchen to the world’ policy which took place at the Emerald Hotel. She said that collaboration from the public and private sector established today would promote the Thai culinary industry to maintain its unique identity and traditions and that the initiative was another success in driving the government’s policy to expand the market for Thai cuisine as another channel of income for the nation.
The Permanent Secretary commended and thanked all 15 units for their contributions; this included the Ministry of Labour (Department of Skills Development and Department of Employment), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Kasetsart University, Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, Dusit Thani College, Wandee Thai Cooking School, MSC Thai Culinary School, Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant, Minor International PCL and S&P Syndicate PCL. The Permanent Secretary explained the initiative’s importance on promoting culinary professionals in Thai restaurants across the world, which has attracted an income exceeding 400 billion Baht annually in the past, and that the policy would also promote employment and instill confidence among culinary professionals in having a better life. She also commended investments in Thai restaurants abroad which has led to Thai cuisine becoming one of the top in the world and that the government’s efforts would further support this.
The signed MOU aims to integrate and align national strategy in excelling the ‘Thai kitchen to the world’ policy. The Ministry of Labour’s role will provide skills development and assessment measures in Thai culinary arts provided by the Department of Skills Development whereas the Department of Employment will facilitate convenience in the relocation of culinary professionals working abroad.
