Today (September 29, 2020) at 13.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the meeting of the Management of the Foreign Workers Fund Committee Meeting No. 10/2020. The Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul and the Ministry of Labour’s executives attended the meeting at the Tien Achakul meeting room, 10th floor, Department of Employment. The meeting considered the extension period of disbursements from the 2020 fiscal year, to be disbursed in the 2021 fiscal year. On September 10, 2020, at 13.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol presided over the knowledge sharing program’s commencement on Convention No. 100 on equal remuneration for male and female workers in equal work, 1951 and Convention No. 111 on discrimination regarding employment and occupation, 1958. Deputy Permanent Secretary Ms. Aumpun Thuvavit also joined the occasion at the Centara Grand Hotel, Central World, Bangkok. The project included lectures on the work of the expert committee on the implementation of conventions and recommendations. The event took place in the form of lectures in training rooms and on-line lectures to raise awareness of equal compensation and employment and career discrimination, for all departments and sectors to have aligned understanding. The knowledge will promote a fair society in terms of working compensation, free from discrimination in employment and occupation, to meet the two conventions’ objectives. The Permanent Secretary of Labor joined the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of labour cooperation between Thailand and Israel. He confirmed that sending Thai workers to work in Israel through the TIC Project will continue to operate efficiently, transparently, and fairly. Today (September 9, 2020) at 12.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and Director-General of the Department of Employment Mr. Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul joined celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the Thai-Israeli labour cooperation. He also discussed government matters with Mr. Meir Shlomo, Israel’s Ambassador to Thailand, at the Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit Hotel. Mr. Suthi said, “Under the new Memorandum of Cooperation with the Department of Employment to dispatch workers instead of the IOM, I am confident that sending Thai workers to work in Israel through the TIC Project will continue with efficiency and transparency. The Labour Minister ordered the Department of Employment to work proactively in collecting job vacancies to accommodate nearly 100,000 unemployed people, accelerating the push forward to resolve unemployment problems in all sectors due to the toxic effects of Covid-19. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin emphasized the issue of unemployment, which has occurred in all sectors of the nation, accelerating the creation of jobs in all dimensions to alleviate suffering immediately. He said that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in unemployment globally. There are now 91,444 job vacancies to support the unemployed. In raising the rate of economic recovery after the Covid-19 impacts, the government, led by Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, places importance on unemployment throughout the nation. The Ministry of Labour concluded “The COVID-19 Resistant Farm Project Model”, helping 1,101 unemployed people with occupations from all over the country in 30 farms and 17 provinces. The villagers were happy to learn new agricultural theory to extend their self-employment to local employment sources, enabling income for self-sufficiency family sustainably; many participants are interested to apply for Phase 2 of the project. The Ministry of Labour received 10 crates of vegetable oil products from Lam Soong (Thailand) Co., Ltd, to replenish the community pantries for people to take and use, to relieve suffering from COVID-19. On May 22, 2020, Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nanthadet Meksawat together with Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat jointly received the 10 crates of vegetable oil products from Managing Director of Lam Soon (Thailand) Public Company Limited, Mr. Wirat Suwanarat, at the foyer on the ground floor of the Ministry of Labour building. The donation was part of the donations to help replenish vegetable oil in the community pantries to help the people affected by COVID-19 to continue with their lives. The Ministry of Labour produced 100,000 pieces of cloth masks in return to the Thai Red Cross for distribution to the public to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Today (April 30, 2020) at 09.00 hours, Assistant to the Labour Minister Dr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat and the Ministry of Labour’s executives returned 100,000 pieces of cloth mask to the Thai Red Cross, which presented 67 rolls of Salao cloth to the Ministry of Labour. The cloth was taken to Skills Development Institutes/Offices nationwide and sewn into masks on April 13. The Ministry of Labour reported that the Cabinet gave a green light for over 100,000 foreign workers who traveled to work following the MoU who have completed their employment term and foreigners who work on a seasonal basis or travel back and forth within the border area. The measures will allow the workers to stay in the Kingdom temporarily and to work temporarily until the borders are reopened. Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul reported that the Cabinet’s meeting on March 31, 2020, approved measures for foreign workers who traveled to work following the MoU who have completed four years of employment, and foreigners who work on a seasonal basis or travel back and forth within the border area, which have expired permits but cannot leave the Kingdom before or on April 30, 2020. On December 17, 2019, at 16.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the closing speech of the 10th ASEAN Regional Tripartite Social Dialogue Conference (ARTSDC), at the Avani Atrium Hotel, Bangkok. The conference was held between December 16-17, 2019, with the central theme being to strengthen social partnerships and the fusion of fair and balanced transition into the future. Chatumongol Sonakul chaired the opening speech for the 10th ASEAN Regional Tripartite Social Dialogue Conference (ARTSDC) at the Avani Atrium Hotel, Bangkok. He said that this tripartite meeting is essential as a confirmation of good relations throughout the 30 years between senior ASEAN workers, the ASEAN Services Employees Trade Union Council (ASETUC), the ASEAN Secretariat, and the FES. The ARTSDC has evolved since the first meeting in 2009. Previously, the conference had limited participants relevant to labour issues, whereas today, the ARTSDC has received cooperation and participation from international organizations too. M.R.
