          The Labour Minister chaired the Ministry of Labour’s Executive Meeting on accelerating labour missions according to government policy. He reported that the Prime Minister thanked the Ministry of Labour for helping the workforce affected by Covid-19.           On January 27, 2021, at 10.00 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin chaired the Ministry of Labour’s Executive Meeting no. 1/2021. MOL Prepares to Lead Kluaynamthai Hospital Management Team to Provide Funding and Careers Supporting the Aging Society

          On January 27, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat reported that because the world is faced with changing demographics, the number of newborn children has declined, and the elderly population has increased. Thailand is the same. To support the aging society, the Thai government has made the aging society a national agenda. Due to the working-age ratio, the nation must bear the burden of raising the elderly, which is an age that enters a more dependent state. Some elderly people are still healthy and can work to help and take care of themselves. But there are still elderly people who need to be cared for. Labour Minister Reports Cabinet’s Approval to Extend Foreign Workers’ Health Examination and Visa Applications for 6 Months

          The Cabinet approved an extension for the health examination period and applications for permission to stay in the Kingdom as a special case for foreigners according to the Cabinet’s resolution on August 20, 2019, August 4, 2020, and November 10, 2020. According to the Cabinet resolution on December 29, 2020, the approval also covers foreigners and adds guidelines on allowing detained foreigners to work with an employer with intentions to hire.           Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the new wave of Covid-19 outbreaks that have continued from the beginning of 2020 has spread across many areas and affected foreigners’ work management process. As a result, the implementation of the Cabinet’s guidelines has been delayed on many occasions, including the process of heath checks and visa extensions not being completed within the specified period, causing foreigners of the three nationalities to fall into an illegal immigrant status. Cabinet Approves Reduced Contributions Rates for 2 Months and Extends Foreign Workers’ Stay under MOUs for 6 Months

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the Cabinet’s resolution to reduce the rate of contributions for insured persons under Sections 33 and 39 for two months (February and March 2021) to alleviate suffering Covid-19 impacts. He also reported extending the health checkup period for foreigners working under MOU arrangements. The term of employment is for two years, with permission to stay in the Kingdom under special circumstances.           On January 26, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that today, the Cabinet passed a resolution to consider and approve proposals by the Ministry of Labour regarding amendments to the Ministerial Regulation, setting the rate of contributions to the Social Security Fund, B.E. 2020. Amendments include for February and March 2021 contributions on the employer’s part to be set at a rate of 3 percent of the insured persons’ wages, whereas insured persons under Section 33 to pay at the rate of 0.5% of the insured person’s wages, and for insured persons under Section 39 to pay at a rate of 38 Baht per month. Labour Minister Reduces Contributions to Help Insured Persons Affected by New Wave of Covid-19 Outbreaks and Encourages Migrant Workers to Register Online

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin cares for insured persons, establishing remedial measures in following government measures to heal and relieve employers’ troubles and insured persons in the social security system during the second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak and prepares to promote foreign workers to register online.           On January 4, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak is likely to continue to spread. The government has ordered the closure of many types of businesses, directly affecting the operations of temporarily closed businesses. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has issued a “Ministerial Regulation on the rate of contributions to the Social Security Fund B.E. 2020”, resulting in a reduction of employer and employee contributions for insured persons under Section 33 to 3 percent. MOL Joins Meeting on Investigations to Eliminate Illegal Migrant Worker Networks at the Royal Thai Police’s Operation Center

          On December 29, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Political Official at the Secretariat Office of the Prime Minister, performing duties at the Ministry of Labour Police General Nantachat Supamongkol and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Phairoj Chotikasathian, joined as representative advisors and participated in an investigation to suppress and eliminate illegal migrant networks at the Royal Thai Police’s Operation Center. Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, Police General Damrongsak Kittipraphat chaired the meeting. The meeting notified urgent matters of the Royal Thai Police in the case of infected migrant workers who were smuggled into the city illegally. Therefore, they issued an order to appoint a working group to investigate and crackdown on illegal labour networks, to conduct an effective investigation, preventing the spread of Covid-19. MOL Joins Center for the Covid-19 Situation Administration Operational Meeting at Government Houses

         On December 27, 2020, at 09.00 hours, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Phairoj Chotikasathian, joined the Center for the Covid-19 Situation Administration Operational Meeting at Santi Maitree Building (inside), Government Houses. General Natthaphon Nakaphanich chaired the meeting. The meeting reported the progress of the Covid-19 situation and the following agendas for consideration: 1. Safety certification of fishery products. 2.Travel into the Kingdom by air, water and land and staying in state detention facilities. 3. Labour Minister Reports CSA Acknowledges Measures to Support Workers Affected by Covid-19

         Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined a meeting with the Covid-19 Situation Administration (CSA) Committee. He reported that the meeting acknowledged measures to mitigate and help insured persons affected by Covid-19, reducing contributions among employers and insured employees to 3% for three months (January to March 2020) and pay 50% of wages in compensation for unemployment from force majeure up to 90 days.          On December 24, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin attended the meeting of the Covid-19 Situation Administration (CSA) Committee at the Santi Maitri Building, behind the Government Houses. Labour Minister Visits Nonthaburi to Monitor Progress on Driving Thailand Together

Deputy Labour Minister Visits Chiang Mai to Promote Workforce to Support Tourism

        The Deputy Labour Minister followed up on the results from efforts to promote tourism in Chiang Mai following the “Create-Elevate-Give; Uniting Thailand to Build a Nation” policy.
