On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at 09.00 hours, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Somsak Apiwantanakul, presided over the workshop to increase the effectiveness of the prevention of labour trafficking, between September 4-5, 2019, at Grand Ratchada Room, 5th floor, Tharnthip Building, Chaopraya Park Hotel Bangkok. Download Images The workshop is courtesy of Police General Chatchawan Suksomjit (senator) and experts from the Faculty of Political Science Ramkhamhaeng University, who gave lectures on human trafficking prevention and protection of the rights of workers of all nationalities following international standards. The talks also covered management of foreign workers in the system, including the ratification of the Protocol under the 29th ILO Convention on forced labour, the ratification of the ILO Convention No. 188 on Working in the Fisheries Sector, as well as cooperation with all sectors in prevention of human trafficking and forced labour, government and international organizations, private sector, civil society and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Chatumongol Sonakul said that from the participation of Thai youths in the 45th National Skills Competition in Kazan, Russia, the Thai youths won 2 bronze medals and 12 commendation medals, from 25 people competing in a total of 23 branches. Today, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development (DSD) has organized a ceremony to present certificates and awards to the participants in this competition, to give morale to all dedicated young people creating excellent outcomes and fame for the nation. Today (August 30, 2019) M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul welcomed 14 Thai fishing crew members afloat in the sea in Somalia, arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 07.25 hours (August 30). All 14 crew members gave garlands to show their gratitude to the assistance provided to travel back to Thailand safely. The Labour Minister stressed that Thai workers traveling abroad for work do so correctly by the law, to ensure protection and avoid exploitation. Workers must also notify the Department of Employment about moving. The Ministry of Labour is prepared to apply for membership to help fund job seekers working overseas, to ensure the rights and benefits of employees and to help workers in trouble abroad.
